Developing New SEO Strategies Video Transcription –

John:                     Hello there. I'm John McLauchlan. I'm here with Mr. Rob Fore. Now, the people watching this that know me, know that I'm involved with SEO and everything I do I teach you after I steal from you! Great.

So Mr. Rob Four is my SEO coach. We spent a lot of time together last year developing an SEO strategy. One of the things I want to know from you, Rob, is that you teach the basics and then every-so-often you come up with an idea and I go, oh God I thought I had this SEO thing going and now you've got the Twitter thing. How do you come up with these ideas? How do you sort of develop them?

Rob:                       A lot of the time, it's coming to events like this and just paying attention to what the other people are doing. If you really think about what we do, is we sit and we work in isolation. We get our little system. We do our thing and it's kinda like to the exclusion of the world. Well, our way is not always the only way or maybe even the best way. So we come to events like this, where there's active six-figure, multiple six-figure, even seven-figure income earners and just listed to what they're excited about. And quite often you're gonna learn something like, wow I didn't even know!

John:                     Right. Yeah. And then you go and test it.

Rob:                       I always go and test it and then go, is it gonna work for me? Because even though it may be working great for them, it may not work for you. For example, I do a lot of blogging. I don't mind writing. But if English isn't your first language or even if it is but you really don't spell well, it might not be for you. So it could work great for me or great for John, but you're going, Ahh! Or video might be a better decision.  So I do test it and whether it's good for me or not good for me. Then I can report that to my team and go, hey you guys this might be awesome for you.

John:                     Fantastic.

Rob:                       So it's kinda like we're the frontier guys I guess. They go find it and bring it back to the tribe and go, hey look what I found.

John:                     What would you say … What would your main advice be to people getting started with SEO? What would you sort of recommend to people?

Rob:                       I think with SEO, you really need to compile … ask yourself. It doesn't matter what you sell. In every blog post you sell something different. Every particular blog you sell something different. But ask yourself the question, who's the person most likely to have the interest in what I'm selling. Starting with that, the answer to that question, compile an extensive keyword list and create content for every one of those keywords. That way, we don't have to get lucky and dominate something that gets a lot of searches. We can dominate or rank for three, four dozen things that get a little bit of search, called the long tail, that all adds up to a great big tail. It's just an easier way to get started versus trying to beat the competition and trying to do something magnificent.

John:                     So just from that then, in terms of keyword research, you say go and be the competition. You go use your strategy.  You are the competition. And other people say go for low competition keywords. What do you recommend?

Rob:                       Well that's how I do it. So let's say we pull a keyword list. Let's say there's 500 keywords on that list. I'll sort form high to low. The highest number of searches is for this keyword. Well obviously that's the one we want to rank for, but it's gonna be so competitive it's gonna be hard. So I'll create that piece of content first, but now we've got 499 all keywords. Now I start from the bottom up. Now I am building the long tail and I'm going for tiny searches that have no competition. Each of those posts, somewhere in that post, I am going to link back to that original. So by the time I've created these other 400 pieces of content, I've created so much authority for that original one, we dominate. [crosstalk 00:12:28] Make sense? So it's kinda like sneaking in the back door and it works.

John:          Hello there. I'm John McLauchlan. I'm here in Austin, Texas with Mr. Norbert Orlewicz. and Norbert for me was somebody who I learned from going back to probably early 2009. I followed all of his trainings and just did what he suggested.

Norbert, first of all thanks very much for agreeing to do this interview I really appreciate it.  It's been many years in the making!

For all the people out there, for all the new people, who are involved with building a home based business thing, developing a home business online, and very quickly they get overwhelmed with things that they've got to do. What would your advice be to people when they first get involved …. the sort of first … what would be some information that you would give to people getting started?

Norbert:          Well I think when you're first getting started, it's really important to get with the right coach or the right mentor. Somebody who can kind of guide you along the way. Like you said, it's really easy to get overwhelmed. It's really easy to complicate online marketing and building a home based business.

You've gotta find what's going to work for you, in the end. And for some people that's going to be a little bit of trial and error. A lot of times you'll have to try different things and see what works and what doesn't. Just because something worked for somebody else, doesn't mean it's going to work for you. You've gotta find things that work with your strengths and your talents. And so, you gotta give a little bit of time for that period of learning, of exploration, of growth.

I find that period of time can really vary. For some people it might be a matter of weeks. For some people it might be a matter of months.

What's really important is that you have set the right intentions for yourself and for your business. That you're in this for the long term. You've committed that this is what I'm doing. This is my business. This is my profession. I'm gonna become a professional. This isn't a hobby. It's not just a game. I'm not just gonna try this. But I've actually committed for the long term.

That's the only way that you can stick through it and stick through all of the challenges and then it's a matter of simplifying down. So once you start to narrow down what strategies you're gonna focus on, how you're going to grow your business, you're starting to put your plan together. Keep it simple in the beginning, as simple as possible. Do less. Always look to do less. Always ask yourself, “is this necessary?”

So perfect example right now, Snapchat's the biggest thing. Okay. Everyone is talking about Snapchat. It's hot. Whatever. Everyone's going crazy about it. Especially if you're in the beginning, right now you gotta ask yourself, is this necessary? Can I build without it? Does it fit my strengths? Does it fit the way that I want to build my business? And if it doesn't, you've gotta say no. You've gotta eliminate and simplify.

John:                      So essentially, pick something and be disciplined with it.

Absolutely. Discipline. That's one of the hardest things because there's so much noise in the space. You know, you're probably subscribed to lots of different email lists. You're following different teachers and gurus. And then you start attending different webinars and buying different courses and next thing you know, there's a hundred different ideas swimming around in your head. Right? So you've gotta be disciplined in narrowing your focus and saying no and eliminating distractions. Eliminating information. And really just focusing on the basics.

John:                     And do you think there's a big conflict between people just going forward with one idea. Between that and people thinking they're gonna miss out by not getting the next product.

Norbert:              Absolutely. It's that fear of missing out that's gonna drive you crazy. Right? And it's going to … it can kill your business. You know? It can really be a challenge for you. You're not gonna miss out. There will always be a new Snapchat, you know? Next year there will be a new Snapchat. But focus on the fundamentals. Are you growing your audience? How are you growing your audience? Are you building your email list? How are you building your email list? Are you engaging and sharing valuable content with your audience? If you're not doing those things, Snapchat's not gonna help you.

John:                     Yeah. That's right.

Norbert:              Do you know what I mean? These gimmicks and these hacks and these new crazy things, it's not gonna help you. Get the basics. Get the fundamentals in place and focus on those on a consistent and regular basis over a long period of time.

John:                     What's more to be said? Fantastic information Norbert. Brilliant. As you say, stick with the basics. Get disciplined. Provide value to your marketplace. Fantastic. Well Norbert, thanks very much for this interview. Really appreciate it.

Facebook Ad Marketing Tips Video Transcription –

Hi there. I'm John McLauchlan. I'm here with Justice Egan at the Live The Dream 7 in Austin, Texas. Let me just move this a little bit.

Justice:                 Yeah, for sure.

John:                     Arms are in the way. Okay, so one of the things that you use, Justice, to develop your business, is Facebook ads.

Justice:                 Correct, yeah.

John:                     Paid ads. What sort of strategy would you give to people who are thinking about using it as their traffic generator? What would you sort of advise people to do?

Justice:                 Well I think where I see some of these people go wrong with Facebook ads is with their expectations. Okay. They don't go in with a clear understanding of what they're trying to achieve. Of what that achieving … Whatever the objective is.

Whether it be get engagement. Whether it be get a fan. Whether it be have conversions, make sales, whatever. They don't go in understanding what value that has to them, what they're willing to pay for it, what it means to their business.

They don't really know their numbers, in other words. What happens is most people go into Facebook and they will run an ad or two, not see the result they're looking for or not even really know what they're looking for, and then they'll feel as if their spending … they're throwing good money away. Okay. And the reality is I get eight out of ten ads wrong, okay. I'm spending that money getting the information back from the marketplace and then that information helps me to get those one or two ads right. That's where things get really really interesting and you can produce incredible results. Again, regardless of what objective you're going for.

So, the advice I'd give people is one, understand what you're looking to accomplish, what it's worth to you in your business, both short and long term. Sometimes people are looking for a payoff immediately and there is a long term value to a lead. There's a long term value to a customer. And sometimes you gotta balance it. You gotta factor that in.

So understand what you're objective is, what you're willing to pay for your objective, and then also know that every dollar you spend that it's producing something. What it's producing is … it's producing information and feedback that's going to help you get to the successful ad. It is about testing. It is about getting it right. It's about dialling it in. It's not cooking cutter where you're going to do an ad and then go, it worked or it didn't work.

This is a process and you gotta go in with that understanding and that expectation or otherwise you're setting yourself up to be disappointed and you're missing the opportunity, which is the most incredible marketing platform that's ever existed on the planet right now. An endless opportunity to reach the perfect prospect. Once you take the time to really develop the skills.

John:                     And really what you said there is what a lot of people have said, is develop the skills. Develop the skills, master what you … the craft … master the one thing that you're gonna go at and then just move forward with it and get the results with that.

Justice:                 Yeah, don't go in looking, thinking like, well I'm gonna see if I like Facebook ads. Let's see if this first one works for me. That's just not gonna get you where you want to go.

John:                     Yeah, absolutely. Well that's fantastic information. Justice, thank you.
